Elders

I was on my way to Sim Lim today when I met a Elder Andrew. He gave me his card and asked me to come to church some day.

I said I would and gave him my contact number. Curiosity got the better of me. I asked him if he knew a Elder Long. Indeed he knew a Elder long. He was surprised that I remembered someone I met in the Mrt some 3 years ago.

It wasn’t a hard thing to remember given these guys all dress the same. Anyway I am not sure if church would be a such a good idea especially when I am thinking of drafting the Anti Christ Revelations.

  • Technapathy

In which the author invents a God.

    I feel like inventing something.

    I know I will invent a God.

    Technapathy. Tech-na-pa-thy

    The “New” God of Technology.

So remember to pray to him whenever you encounter a problem with technology.

If by any chance he doesn’t answer your prayer, try asking your friends or calling the help desk instead.

  • The Moment of Dawn

    Concerning a Rabbi’s Question.

A Rabbi gathered together his students and asked them: “How do you know the exact moment when night ends and day begins?”

“When it’s light enough to tell a sheep from a dog,” said one boy.

Another student said “No, when it’s light enough to tell an olive tree from a fig tree.”

“No, that’s not a good definition either.”

“Well, what’s the right answer?” asked the boys.

    And the Rabbi said:

“When a stranger approaches, and we think he is our brother, and all conflicts disappear, that is the moment when night ends and day begins.”

  • No Work

An old fable passed on orally.

As soon as he died, Juan found himself in a very beautiful place, surrounded by the comfort and beauty that he had dreamt of. A person dressed in white came up: “you have the right to whatever you want: any food, pleasure, fun”, he said.

Delighted, Juan did everything he had dreamt of during life. After many years of pleasures, he looked for the person in white:

“I’ve already done everything I wanted to”, he said. “Now I need some work, to feel useful”.

“I’m very sorry”, said the person in white, “but this is the only thing that I cannot get for you. Here there is no work”.

“To spend eternity dying of tedium? I would prefer a thousand times to be in hell!”

The person in white came up, and said in a low voice:

“Where do you think you are?”

  • Primary Relationships

I was thinking about the possible future where our internet relationships become our primary relationships.

Already, I have dear friends with whom I interact solely through the internet. I don’t find my feelings diminished by the medium. But, I look forward to seeing those friends in person and I wouldn’t want to have less physical contact with the friends I can get together with.

I’m a traditionalist. I like the weight of a real book in my hands then reading a PDF. Touching is good. It’s just not the same when we chat on messenger. I do remember life before the internet. It was way more fun than this.

What if some horrible circumstance made physical contact taboo? What if disease or environment created a need for physical isolation? Before this things happen, I think it might be a good idea to meet up with our friends just to take one last good look at them.
